The following are a couple of important points that we would like you to take note of:
Unit Manager
Sr L Kelly is in charge of Ward 1 and will gladly assist with any questions, requests or complaints. If she is unavailable please make contact with the Sr in charge.
Admission
Patients entering the ward will be admitted immediately in a professional manner, providing the patient and family with as much information as possible
Doctors Rounds
Doctors usually perform their rounds early in the mornings, but this might vary according to the personal preference or convenience of the particular doctor. Most of our doctors are private practitioners and have other responsibilities throughout the day, like theatre cases and private practises, so we please do ask that if you want to make contact with your doctor that you ask one of the nursing personnel on duty to do it for you.

Pain Medication
Pain medication rounds will be done to ensure that your stay in the hospital remains pain free. We do however ask that you do not refuse pain medication if offered, as this might cause a delay in administration, if ask at later stage. If the pain medication does not have the desired effect, please do not hesitate to ask for additional medication. Pre-medication preparation for theatre will only be given in cases where the anaesthetist prescribed the medication in the ward.
Empty Beds
Please ask for additional chairs from nursing personnel if needed, and do not make use of empty beds as these beds are prepared for new patients.
Patient information and files
Patient files are strictly for use by hospital staff. All medical records and information are confidential. If you have any queries about the results or treatment of yourself or family member, please discuss this with the nursing staff or doctor.
Discharge
Patients will only be allowed to go home on doctors’ orders. If you need assistance to get to your car, please ask the nurse assisting you, who will arrange a porter to transfer you with a wheelchair to your vehicle. All paperwork needs to be completed before leaving the ward to comply with legal requirements. You are also more than welcome to provide us with any complaints and compliments so that we can focus on providing the best possible service.
Private Patients
Private patients need to be patient as their files need to be completed on discharge, in order for the hospital administration clerks to finalise the account on departure.
