The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
The medical and nursing personnel would like to welcome you in the Midmed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and would like you to note the following in regard to you stay.
Visitors
Unfortunately only the parents of the babies in NICU are allowed during visiting hours. The reason for this is to minimise possible infections that might be introduced into the highly sterile environment.
Visitors will also be restricted during medical rounds and during any procedures performed in NICU.
Visiting Hours
10:00-11:00
13:00-14:00
19:00-20:00
Hygiene
Please wash your hands on entering the sterile environment in NICU. Hand sanitiser and an antiseptic solution is available in NICU and are at your disposal. Please do not touch any of the other babies except your own and do not circulate throughout the ward. This is to reduce possible cross infection that might take place.
Information
Please ask the friendly nursing and medical staff regarding any information required by you, as they would gladly assist. Information however will only be furnished to the parents of the baby, to protect the confidentiality that the patient is entitled to.
Baby Necessities
The NICU ward would appreciate it if the parents of the baby can provide the ward with the following to optimise the care of your baby in the ward:
- Ear buds
- Surgical Alcohol
- Baby soap/Shampoo
- Baby Cream
- Vaseline
- Dummy

Toys
Soft, washable toys, baby shoes and hats (caps) are permissible.
Photographs
You are welcome to take photographs throughout the unit.
Breast Feeding
Babies can be provided with expressed milk from the mother in cases where the mother prefers to breastfeed the baby. In these cases, assistance will be provided in the correct technique by our friendly staff.
